aint calling you a liar but i dont see how it couldve been anyone else
she had the same long black hair as you
wore a white dress

[ granted, not one he ever saw Rin wearing, and her hair hung down in tangles instead of floating as it usually does—but that didn't strike him as strange. He's long since gotten used to the Entity changing clothing and appearances according to some unknowable whim. What made him certain was— ]

and she moved the same way you do
there one step and gone the next

[ a new killer... that would explain it. Even though it felt like only a short while ago that the bone orchard just beyond Glenvale came alive with the shrieking of crows as the one the survivors call "the Artist" settled in. Does that mean there's someone new at their campfire too?

Well, if there is, he'll meet them in a trial sooner or later. Better to keep an eye out for this spirit in case she decides to comes back. A minute goes by as he considers Rin's question. ]

i wasnt close enough to get a long look but she seems more ghostly than you
didnt leave a single footprint anywhere

[ when Caleb emerged from the fog near the faded sign proclaiming the ghost town's name, he'd spotted her standing in the middle of the road before the saloon. A brief pause, apparently, because she immediately started moving again, shoulders jerking stiffly up and down, one after the other and never together, her form flickering with each purposeful stride.

Where did she come from? ]

and she was walking like she knew exactly where she was going
not like she was lost at all

i wouldnt like that myself
got enough dead people around already

[ Caleb looks out the saloon entrance. He was lucky this time; no corpses wearing the faces of his men hang from the gallows or sprawl in the rusty dirt of the streets. That might change when he returns from his next trial. Or it might not. Either way, he doesn't need some vengeful specter making herself at home in Glenvale. Rin is fine company when she does visit, but he has a feeling this one won't be nearly as friendly.

His gaze lands on the water tower. He scowls. A much longer delay comes before his next message. ]

theres a well that wasnt here before
not much water left inside
no bucket to haul it up with either

[ Caleb swears under his breath before stepping away from the well. He reads through Rin's reply again. Sadako—who can kill without a touch, by the sounds of it. A first among the killers already in the fog. Even the one who introduced himself as the Hell Priest, always empty-handed, needs to conjure up physical chains to wound. That alone is enough reason to keep his distance from her—and not gamble on whether or not the Redeemer can do anything to a ghost. ]

i will
much obliged for the warning miss rin
and for telling me all this about her
if that thing did bring her here then i wouldnt be surprised if it made it easier for her to kill

[ impossible as it is to measure out what a day is in the fog, he knows a single trial doesn't last for seven of them. Not to mention that outside of trials, killers have no constraints on their strength or abilities. ]

how do you know her?
deathslinger: (JAW SMASHER.)

[personal profile] deathslinger 2022-03-15 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ mirrors. Immediately, he's thinking of the one upstairs in the saloon. Permanently shattered, but with enough intact fragments clinging to the frame to show a fractured reflection. Then there's the windows with their dust-scratched panes. He used to appreciate that they weren't boarded up or gone entirely like how they are in trials, but now... ]

reckon i know how she managed to vanish without me seeing her go now

[ and if she can use them to leave Glenvale, who's to say she can't use them to come in, too? He needs to tell Zarina about this. The absolute last thing they need is for Sadako to suddenly appear in the room while they're together. ]

and when you say shes real
do you mean the film she was in was a thing of fiction?
not a documentary or anything like that?
deathslinger: (THORN.)

[personal profile] deathslinger 2022-03-16 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
i wont
a television would look a lot more out of place in glenvale than this well does

[ but he is wondering— ]

does the story talk about a way to break the curse?
or is it one of those that ends with everyone dead or wishing they were
deathslinger: (REDEEMER.)

[personal profile] deathslinger 2022-04-04 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
as awful as that huh
guess the survivors wont have a chance to get away then
reckon shell be satisfied with killing in trials and not bother anyone else outside of them?
deathslinger: (RAG.)

[personal profile] deathslinger 2023-11-20 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
dont you worry none miss rin
i aint in the habit of messing around with strange things heedlessly

[ he knows someone who is, though. Maybe Zarina hasn't heard about Sadako yet. He'll talk to her after this. ]

thanks again for telling me
hope she doesnt cause you and your grandpa any trouble
